Our first morning in Oberstaufen greeted us with rain, making it a good time to get a little extra rest and recover from the long travel day. Once the rain stopped, we enjoyed a walk from the resort into Oberstaufen. It was a pleasant path along fields of flowers with the nice views of nearby hills.
Once in Oberstaufen, we rode the train to Immenstadt. That was the town near the beautiful alpine lake that we saw last night.
Immenstadt is a nice old town with cobblestone streets.
We visited historic town center with painted houses, sculptures, fountains, the parish church and the town hall.
Normally stores in Germany are closed on Sunday and streets are quiet but it was a market day in Immenstadt and there were quite a few people mingling on the streets. Most of them appeared to be locals and that added an authentic feel to the lively atmosphere.
As we walked around, we encountered street vendors offering various meats and candies. The smell was almost too much, but we resisted until we had walked at least a few blocks before we gave in to it. We had also encountered a small orchestra playing at various squares, and we were fortunate enough to have them play in the square where we ate lunch.
That along with good food made for a very nice lunch. After lunch we finished touring Immenstadt.
We then proceeded to the train station via a candy shop and rode back to Oberstaufen. We considered the bus, but then opted for the walk back to the resort.
